Where can I decipher a Commer Van VIN??

Hello!

I have a LHD Commer Van in Canada that has been off the road for 40+ years at least.

The vin is CBP 02 015862

The 02 is in smaller numbers so I am not sure if it's supposed to be there?

What year would the van be as there is no paperwork. It does say on the vin tag 1500 which I'm assuming is the engine size.

All the best,

John Stevenson

Hi and welcome. Try clicking on 'home' at the top of the page, then 'down loads' . In that section there's a link to the workshop manual and the first section is all about the VIN codes
Good luck and please tell us more about your van

Thanks for the prompt response!

I rescued the van from a field in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan about 10 years ago after seeing it on an online listing. It sat there since some time in the late 1970/80's.

Although battered ,it is complete and relatively rust free, although lots of surface rust but no holes. Cars can last a long time in the Canadian prairies. Brakes were not even stuck as I was able to inflate the tires and winch it into my trailer.

I looked at the workshop manual but the decipher doesn't add up. Thinking it's for RHD only.

Does anyone have a workshop manual for LHD to compare?

I'll dig out a few photos later of the van when I picked it up.

Cheers
John

You might be able to email the Rootes Archive and see if they can help?

Thanks,

I contacted them and it will be a few weeks until I get the data.

Alternatively, does anyone have the last six digits of the vin within a few hundred of mine ,that will help me narrow it down to the year.

Cheers
John
