I'm trying to plate the floor to give a flat surface for a seal to sit on. It's not a perfect fit but there's some wiggle room.
1.5mm plate, bent on my state of the art sheet metal brake..

More at it today. The lower curved panel for the cover. Can't bend it up from one piece so 3 were welded together. I'm chuffed as to how it turned out. Still more to do though

Surely your choice (when it is made) sends out a message about your confidence as to the frequency of using said hinge... Go stronger, meet me on the quarter mile... Might not last long, but it will be fun. Go smaller, van will stay in manshed to be only looked at..

Had to cut it up and start again before I figured out why it didn't look right. The upper curved piece had a twist to it. I remade it with flat sheet.. all done now. Next job.. hinges.

Hinges are on. (I went for the smaller ones) I'm now modifying a Skoda tailgate latch with a cable release. It's on and works, lots of adjustments and trimming to do though.
I'm hoping to pick up some ally sheet tomorrow so I can skin it all.

Sorry guys.. I bought a sheet of aluminium and had it cut to size. Total engine cover cost so far... £12 for a seal, £36 for aluminium

Few hours yesterday reinforcing the floor around the opening as it had sprung up slightly.

It's all welded in and tested. Works spot on. The lower panel ended up being made from 15 pieces!

Well I got a 200N 700mm strut with eyelet ends. I'm now making it fit (it works BTW)
I used my drill press and grinder as a lathe to turn down bolts into pins.

Skin time. I made templates of the inside for the insulation when it arrives.
The skin is 1mm aluminium which is being riveted in place. Both sides and the top are on now. I need them on so I can cut the front in situ.

The cover is now covered, the top is actually flat but the pic looks like it's sloping . I'm still waiting on the fibreglass insulation to arrive though. The sealing panels are all painted in high temp silver and I mounted the release handle behind the passenger seat.
