What tyres are people fitting?

I don’t know how old the tyres on our van are but one split quite badly on the sidewall the other day so I don’t really want to drive it again until I’ve replaced them.

The old tyres on my van are 185/80/r15 but there’s not much choice with replacements. Hankook Vantra LT’s seem to be the main option and they’re around £107 fitted. It looks like you also could get Bridgestone Duravis r630’s until recently but nowhere has them in stock.

Am I missing anything or are the Hankooks my best bet?

I fitted Nankang NK Van CW25 195 / 80 /15 C grade tyres to my 1970 Autosleeper.

Note: I get some tyre contact with front n/s cill on full left lock in reverse when loaded with a passenger! I could do with fitting some wheel stops to prevent this. Rear wheels come on and off ok. I could not go any wider.

I got them delivered from Camskill in 2021 (who were very good) and I had them fitted locally. See what's available here:

I think this approach will cost you less than you say above.

ps. Best get the tyres delivered to the fitters as they are heavy to cart around if you go this route.

When the tyre size is quoted without the middle number (195/80/15) it means that the tyre is full profile so as tall as it can be for the size of tyre. When it is shown the profile is a percentage of the tyre width - an 80 profile is a tall as you can get so the smaller the number the lower the profile of the tyre - you want it a tall as possible for our vans.

And must be a commercial tyre not a car tyre. Only mention this as my local fitter miss quoted me for car tyres not commercial tyres.

Thanks everybody for your help. Gonna make a few calls to see if I can get the Bridgestone’s anywhere but will probably be getting the Hankooks.
