Walk Thru restoration

Engine now sorted - managed to drive the few miles back to warehouse... first time I've driven in on the road in around 10/11 years.

It's in a terrible state though, body needs ripping apart.

One question for people on here - what would you recommend to do with the fuel tank? It's currently running out of a jerry can.

I've seen the relining type stuff (Holts?), but wondering if a good flush out with new fuel and then a decent filter added might do the trick?

What would you recommend to do with the fuel tank?
That depends what's wrong with it. My standard solution for rust flakes and general gloop is to remove and blank off the fuel gauge, put a shovel full of gravel in, strap it to the drum of a concrete mixer and give it a good churn. Turn the tank round and do it again so you don't miss any. There's a video somewhere on YouTube. Obviously getting it all out again can be a problem. Once dry you could line the tank with "the relining type stuff", but I have no experience of that. I welded up the rust holes that showed up, but I can't recommend tha,t as I had access to specialist extraction equipment to avoid being blown up.

As far as I know there are no holes in it, but it's been standing so long, I'm wary of just using it again without doing anything - thanks for the suggestions.

Caustic soda is good for cleaning tanks ,diluted with water but be careful wear gloves and do it out side, depending on the mixture the tank will get hot , if you cannot find soda ,draino for cleaning drains is another way . After cleaning put diesel in it and make sure you coat all the inside . The fuel sender should be removed .

Gradually getting some more done - not the best welding, but doing the job (and won't be on show....) and roof at least holding up!

Definite improvement in the welds from first to last (think we had the wire speed way too high).

Will be getting some galvanised sheet to redo the bodywork - one 286cm sheet will do one whole side and will be wrapping it round on to the roof, so will improve the look of it no end!PXL_20220609_161103348.jpgPXL_20220610_165229737.jpgPXL_20220610_165139715.jpg

Bit more progress! Van now parked opposite my place, so much easier to pop over and work on a few things.

Been busy welding up more roof supports along with side supports where they were cut out for windows - not great welding but all holding!

And started stripping off the metal sheets on the side I used to hide the mess underneath a few years ago!
