Radiators

if anyone has a shortcut to which belt to order to no longer drive the pump, just the alternator I would be most grateful. The instructions for the pump say you can just leave the mechanical impeller in place. To start with I may do this but want to long term remove it. The housing is alloy isn’t it? I’ve only welded steel before alas.

Cut the old belt, then wrap it round the new path, overlapping the ends. Draw a line across both belts, then open it out and measure the distance between the two marks. That is the length of the belt you require.

Oh, and by the way, I think you may be reversing the flow to the cab heater by adding an electric pump. If this happens, the heater won't work properly, and you'll need to reverse the hose connections too.

So amazingly I’ve only got to the stage of wiring in my Davies Craig kit. Much time was lost trying to get my old crap welder to work, in the end it died and I bought a nice new migatronic unit, a dream to use. So the old water pump housing is all nicely welded up and all the bits are going on. I’m not totally sure where I should wire the ‘ignition’ cable to though, add it to a terminal on the fuse box? What did you fellow Commer-owners do who installed a Davies Craig do please may I ask?

I did wonder about that, apologies for the daft question but is is a question of just adding the green Davies Craig connector to one of the spare terminals on the fuse box with a spade connector?

I like how the Davies Craig bits all come with inline fuses as well. Ive man aged to route cables down to the battery which a previous owner put in a box under the front passenger floor. The little gap between the front skin of the van and the floor was handy for threading cables through as well.

I can't remember how it's wired, it was about fifteen years ago, but there were relays involved. Rather than go direct to the battery I would take a fused feed off the live side of the starter solenoid and a trigger for the relay off the ignition circuit so the pump comes on when you turn the key.

Did similar. I’ve now fitted a second fuse box in the engine with a chunky live feed from the relay. Makes wiring so much more tidy for the fuel pump, fan controller ect. And allow more to be added easily.
Yes there are relays required (for the fan kit at least). It was fairly straightforward and I’m not electrician:)
Will try to post a pic later

That would be great thanks, I have bought the Davies Craig relay kit as well as the pump/controller kit. I was going to adapt the wiring that come with the relay to reflect the diagram with the pump/controller kit. Just being stopped about the ignition wire. As far as I can tell two brown wires come from the steering column which I take to be the ignition. I guess they are completing the circuit when the key is turned to start. So I guess I need to hook into one of those or share a terminal.

Take it from the ignition live side of the fuse box. There's a permanently live side and the other side is only live when you turn the key - there should be a spare terminal or two on there.

Thanks guys will do, I’ll try and take some pics as well. I’m always slow at putting pics up as I know you are supposed to be careful about including location data.

Location data has never even crossed my mind  lol. Unless you mean taking a photo with Big Ben in the background I don’t even know what it is.

Aah well I think all phones and most cameras save metadata along with the photo in the file. You hear stories of people putting up ‘spotted in driveway’ pictures to groups and then the motor was nicked.

It easy to sort with the pic on a laptop, in windows for sure there is a ‘save without location data’ and it makes a location-less copy. But it means faffing with uploading your pics from your phone, making a copy and then uploading to forum etc and life keep getting the way!

Turn your location off on your phone, I never have it on unless I want to use Google maps. They'll never find me ;)
