Hi commer ads hope everyone is keeping well and getting out and about.
Patience is still with us and more testing than my 5 year old, well..... We had a moment and was going to sell but we are not the ones that give up and had many a conversation about it and it was my smallest human that talked us round to keep going ( well she kicked and screamed then cryed). So engine and box back out, engine stripped again everything checked and double checked, no play and no scores, pistons and rings all good, crank all good, I shut the garage doors for a good couple of weeks to think where to go with it and was just about to go down the mx5 automatic converson road but again I like to work with what I have so all got rebuilt and re installed with new oil and filter and not the running in oil (problem 1) timed him up and out we go got up to temp and no heavy breathing and no smoke yippee leason learned don't run on running in oil lol. Cleaned him up loaded wife and child and off the Largs for the day 10 miles in miss fire and loss of power OK fine tools out reset the points all good off we go again get to 30 mph and that's it can't stop keep him going to Largs. Checked the points and a mile out again reset and clean, mind goes into overtime rotate the engine a couple of times and check.... points don't open reset again keep in mind I have about 20 people around the van at this point all with the I mind going on holiday in one of these and I served my time on these old things I could tell you a thing or two about them ooooww yes I mind them ooooww wait a automatic iv never seen one on a auto did you do that , my count is about 20 to 30 with that one lol anyway all back in the van and head out make it one mile and basically lost all power but ticking over lovely.... Aaaa timing OK into car park and get a new crowd to gather around OK adjust timing..... No not that.... Points..... Hmmmmm no wait not good spark, clean points.... Still the same so into my bag I go and aha the old points from when I got him flung them in and there we go, readjust timing set points and fires up.... even got a chear from a couple of people and a offer to take my wife and wee one home that was tempting at this point. Back on the road getting out of Largs and big hill coming... yip 5 mph hold in first and foot to floor poping and banging all the way up and not much better getting home but home non the less. One sleepless night later and a lot of thinking 6am I was out there full distributor out and stripped.....well this is problem 2 and I think the problem from baz what a mess the shaft was bent the cam is worn the bush had well.. it wasn't bushing the ballance weights seized shut, jumped on the interweb and got a looking a hour later I had ordered a full everything new electronic ignition system 2 days later I get a fitting fires up first push off the button run up to temp and set timing what a difference night and day ran about the town for a week and then the big one the bypass!!!! ( this has never worked well for him) off we go 30...40..... 50....55 plenty niff test.... Temp 75°? Mirrors no smoke following me this went on for 15 miles till I actually got stuck behind an other car mmmm do I overtake or sit there mmmm nothing coming indicator on and point and squirt well I can say he has woke up from the mood he has been in I lifted at 70mph and he went straight there I was pumped me and blue settled down and owned the bypass for the rest of the 40 miles journey, jumped into the fuel stop for the good stuff then home full check over only thing is a small oil leak at the timing casing engine mount ( again!!!) but all good. Next day ( yesterday satarday 18th) I had a bit of running about to do and patience with het for it with the family and 27°outside the patience will be tested it's now or never and he did not fail he done 120 miles most was 55 mph and never missed a beat temp still at 75°? And smooth unlike use it was a furnace inside but loved it.
Sorry it was a bit long morol of the story patience is a virtue and if you keep going at something it does pay of in the end. Next will be the inside wait till you see what's in my head for that just done the mini roof lining lol have a good day ye all. As
